I am the second owner. Purchased off of Audiogon a couple of years ago. I had an authorized repair center install a brand new disc mechanism and laser in it (90 day warranty on the 100 dollar repair). It is the same model Sony disc mechanism and laser that Oppo originally put in the 980H. The player works perfectly. Still can't believe how good this player makes standard DVDs look. Also plays SACDs and DVDAs via HDMI or analog outs. Player is beautiful, a small hard to see mark here and there, perfect front. There are several very positive reviews on line for this unit. I have the original box and accessories.
