I'm putting up for sale this NEW never mounted Encounter Tonearm. It started out as a Mk1 and sat on a dealer's shelf for about four years. I bought it about a month ago and sent it off to Origin Live for an upgrade to a MK3 Carbon arm and have it fully checked out. This arm is not the same as a current MK3 because the vertical bearing is still the MK1 and MK2 iteration. This has advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is the arm does not have slop in it if you pull on it the wrong way. I opted for the older bearing because the intention was to put this arm on the family table. An Acoustic Signature Manfred. Damage can occur to the bearing of the MK3 version if it is not handled by the informed audiophile. So. I thought this was a good idea. The downside is the MK3 bearing does sound a bit better. But, unless you are putting a $2K plus cartridge on it and have a very good phono stage, you wont hear the difference. The arm is what makes the big difference and the bearing makes a little difference - this can be confirmed by the OL website. The tech at OL told me it was not worth the bearing upgrade (exchange arms) because the big difference is the carbon arm. This arm is a bargain for what it is - practical and VERY musical. I've owned other Origin Live arms so I know what it sounds like. Price is firm because if I can't get the asking price (what I've got invested), I should keep it and be more patient about raising funds for a new phono stage. rated 9/10 because the wooden box shows some age. Arm is 10/10 - NEW. Buyer pays 3% paypal fees and shipping.
