Testimonials (on all Bob's Devices)
Overall Rating: 10 LPs
"The Bob's Devices CineMag 1131 Blue moving coil step up transformer is a superior component that would fit in a system of any price. Music is always very enjoyable with this device in the system. As with the Levinson phono stage, the 1131 Blue may be the ideal upgrade for your current phono preamplifier. It could save you thousands of dollars by not purchasing a much more expensive phono preamplifier than the one already resident in your system."
- Jerry Seigel, 10Audio.com
"The result? You will now get more of what you paid for with your cartridge. Whether you like that or not is another matter. I happened to very much like the 'wide shot' aspect of it. Lots of space and perspective both near and far is always a plus for me. That it allowed the system to image a bit better didn't get me excited but it might really float your boat. That it improved openness in the treble and allowed the cart to show its stuff in the bottom end sure worked for me though. There was some improvement in macro dynamics as well."

"Especially for the LP enthusiast who has yet to experience the superiority of a moving-coil pickup combined with a transformer step-up device, I can think of no better place to begin."
- Art Dudley, Stereophile, on the $395 entry lever SUT from Bob
These specially designed transformers are wired to connect a moving coil cartridge (on a turntable) to a phono preamplifier, phono input of a receiver, or your preamp's phono input.
Ultra High quality laminations, lower inductance and superior sound. These transformers were especially designed and tested with several low-output moving coil cartridges. These are very difficult transformers to construct and require a precision manufacturing process.
Hand Crafted, Moving Coil (MC) Cartridge Step-up Transformer (SUT) built with new CineMag CMQEE-1131 (Blue Version) Transformers and gold plated hardware in a hand polished black powder coated cast-aluminum enclosure. All lettering is laser etched. Included are 2 switches: high/low gain and ground/lift.

Includes premium construction with C&K Brand Silver contact toggle switches, and Deluxe Gold Plated RCA jacks.
Switchable for 1:20 (26 dB gain) or 1:40 (32 dB gain). Into a standard 47k phono preamp, the effective input impedance of the low gain (1:20 ratio) is 118 ohms. At 1:40, the effective input impedance is 29 ohms. The 1:40 ratio is perfect for those extremely low output cartridges including some by Audio Notes and Ortofon SPU.
- Available switchable between 1:10 and 1:20.
- Available as a balanced device with XLR connectors (+$200).
CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES: All connections are Resistance soldered using the American Beauty system which avoids heat damage to the delicate insulation on the hair-like wires of the transformers. Test equipment is very low current to avoid saturating the transformer cores. You can count on a premier product that is state-of-the-art.
This unit includes a grounding post that can be used to connect your turntable ground and your preamplifier ground. It also includes a ground "lift" switch. In all modes, the transformer cases and faraday shield internal to the transformers are connected to the ground screw. In the "ground" mode, the phono system minus sides (negative sides) are connected to the grounding lug. This configuration works well for those systems where the turntable ground is connected to the negative leads coming from the phono cartridge or where the negative inputs to the preamp are internally connected to ground. In the "lift" mode, none of the conductors in the RCA jacks are connected to the case, ground, or shield and there is no electrical connection between channels. This design allows you much flexibility to mitigate for ground loops regardless of the configuration of your other equipment.
Each SUT is hand-made in the U.S.A., one at a time, using point to point wiring and individually tested. No circuit boards are used.
Bob's Cables - Match your SUT with Bob's top of the line Silver Cable
Bob's Silver Interconnects w/ RCA connectors
This Solid Silver custom terminated interconnect is Bob's top-of-the-line cable. It features a pair of pure silver 22 AWG conductors and triple-shielding consisting of a silver plated OFC braided shield coupled to an Aluminum/Mylar shield and a Teflon PTFE shield. Covering the shield is a braided nylon sheath encased in a clear PVC outer jacket. Internally, this cable has 5 polyethylene air tubes separating and isolating the conductors.
Bob's silver cable is custom terminated in their lab with your choice of the best Cardas SRCA or the new Cardas XLR connectors.
Bob's Devices Interconnects are hand crafted, fully balanced, individually tested and terminated with top of the line Cardas Audio connectors. The interior connections are resistance soldered and insulated with pure Teflon. The silver and silver clad interconnects are terminated using WBT silver solder. All Bob's interconnects feature a balanced type of architecture with internal conductors carrying the + and – signal with an additional braided conductive shield that is connected on one end only. This provides shielding effectively rejecting RF and EM interference without creating ground loops (say goodbye to hum). This makes them especially suited for use in the phono circuit which has low current and is susceptible to interference.
