This preamp is awesome! It can accept any cartridge out there with ease. Simple to use, fabulous sound, just a great buy whether you're getting back into vinyl or upgrading from an entry level phono stage. I'll eat PayPal fees, you pay actual shipping determined after sale.
When it comes to phono preamps, PS Audio knows what they're doing. The company was founded in 1973 to manufacture a single product — a phono preamp for a local radio station. Today, PS Audio has taken advantage of their 34 years of audio expertise to create the GCPH — one of the most accurate and versatile phono preamps ever made.
Advanced Gain Cell™ technology
The GCPH's outstanding performance is largely due to PS Audio's proprietary Gain Cell. This revolutionary device provides a remarkable 130dB range of variable gain with virtually no noise or distortion. A knob on the front panel lets you easily adjust the gain to optimize the signal coming from your turntable. And this gain control serves another unique and useful purpose — it allows you to connect the GCPH directly to a power amplifier. Hook up the GCPH in line between your turntable and amp for the purest vinyl-only system and the best possible sound.
Super-accurate RIAA equalization
Every phono preamp includes RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) equalization to compensate for the boosted highs and attenuated lows built into the vinyl recording process. But unlike most preamps which compensate with active equalization in the gain stage, the GCPH uses a passive RIAA curve. Equalizing the signal outside of the gain stage helps the phono preamp achieve flat, uniform response at all frequencies. Plus, the GCPH's equalization curve conforms to the RIAA standard by better than 0.1dB, for the most accurate reproduction of the original signal.
Mono adjustment
Stereo phono cartridges may not always faithfully reproduce the mono recordings in your vinyl collection, so PS Audio equipped the GCPH with a front-panel "mono" button. Just push this button and the GCPH sums both channels of a stereo cartridge together. This ensures that the left and right outputs contain identical information, for true mono sound on a stereo playback system.
Compatible with a variety of systems
The versatile GCPH works with both moving magnet and moving coil phono cartridges. A control on the rear panel lets you quickly and easily dial in the right impedance for the type of cartridge you're using. And you can connect it to virtually any audio system via the RCA or balanced XLR outputs.
