Overview

The Sutherland 20/20 an AC line- powered phono preamp that fits in comfortably with the Sutherland series of battery-powered phono preamps. It delivers an extremely low noise floor and precise resolution. The 20/20 creatively address AC power-line isolation, takes dual mono to a new level all with extremely high performance, extremely high quality, and extremely high value.

The Sutherland 20/20 is AC powered and it is quiet! It starts with separate external AC power modules for each channel, followed by 10 sections of passive RC filtering and finalized with local constant voltage shunt regulation.

The 20/20 is literally two identical mono phono stages. Each channel is on its own circuit board, has its own shielded compartment, power indicator, its own AC power supply and its own power cord. It is the ultimate in channel separation.

The only part shared by the two channels are the front, side, and back panels of the unit. Sutherland prefers the term "two-mono" rather the more common dual-mono because his design fulfills his quest for "the ultimate in stereo separation".

It also seems that he also doesn't much care for the term "wall-wart", so in the manual he calls the two separate power supplies that connect to the 20/20 "regulated tabletop power supplies", saying that these are of a more sophisticated relative of the latter. And it seems as if he might have a point—because he states that the power supplies of the 20/20 provide additional levels of filtering that removes noise, and then provide local voltage regulation adjacent to the audio circuitry.
