The Vendetta Research Symmetrical Cascode Pre-preamplifier

represents John Curl's latest all-out effort to develop and effective bridge

between the best moving coil cartridges and the highest quality

preamplifier. The SCP-1 uses one of the most linear topologies ever used

in a pre-preamplifier. It is a significant departure form John Curl's

original designs with up to one hundred times less distortion than his

previous  efforts.

The Symmetrical Cascode Pre-preamplifier consists of a direct

coupled push-pull, complementary FET cascode pair that is effectively a

single stage of amplification. The highest quality components are used

throughout, each channel is buffered with its own all FET regulator, and is

servo-controlled to remove any capacitors in the audio signal path.

The input loading is continuously variable between 10 and 200 ohms.

Although the pre-preamp is designed with no negative feedback, it can be

strapped for a small amount of feedback for use with very low impedance

loading of some moving coil cartridges. A

John Curl developed the first successful low noise pre-preamplifier

for Mark Levinson Audio Systems in 1973. Variations on that patented

design are used in many pre-preamps today.
