I have a Whest PS.30RDT SE in like-new condition with box & manual (also in superb condition).

This is the newer style model that does not require removal of the top plate to set loading & gain.

This is one seriously amazing phono stage. How can a phono preamp cost $6000, some will wonder? The cost goes into the meticulous matching and selection of parts as well as their quality. The circuit is a given from the lower model.

Some quotes I gathered from the 'net before I bought (not from pro reviewers, but actual users);

I find people preferring it to ASR Basis and Boulder 1008 ($12K). Lots of raves. Not regarded as warm or lush though.

"The Boulder 1008 soundstage was nice but not like what we all heard next - my trusted Whest PS.30RDT Special Edition. If any of you have ever heard this track - 'flipping hell'!!

The Whest was is a very different league. Not small at all. Where to start. First of all the other guys decided to sell their units after this first track and this is why.

The Whest pulls out stuff from the vinyl that the other 2 units just hinted at.”

"The difference of ASR is difficult to describe, but ASR works dynamically a little worse. Whest provides a way of feeling that the instruments get more energy from the inside out. ASR is a little flatter with less colors. Upwards is it, as I said yet airier and more liberated than ASR. Soundstage is overall better defined holography, focus, width, height and depth is without doubt the best I've had in my system.”

"I went from the 30R to 30RDT and then 30RDT Special Edition and at each stage I heard and experienced a marqued and massive upgrade in audio across the board. I would either get the RDT or send yours in to Whest for upgrading to the RDT or even the Special Edition if you can budget for it.

Going to the Modwright or Herron will actually be a downgrade on what you already have. Don't look at the price but take a listen. The Whest 30 series are by far the highest quality for the money stages around.”

"I have heard the Whest and prefer it to the more expensive Tom Evans groove, though both were good units.”
