Letting go my 2001 Anthem AVM-2 preamp/processor, purchased here on Audiogon around 2004, due to a few issues, see below under condition.

The AVM-2 is the predecessor model to the AVM-20/30/Statement series. As a preamp/processor, this functions similarly to a receiver, but it includes only line-level outputs (not speaker outputs).

See below for important information on the condition.

 Includes:

* Dolby Digital 5.1 processing, DTS decoding, Direct 6-channel analog.
*
Inputs are renamable and reconfigurable between Analog, Digital RCA (coaxial) and Digital Optical (Toslink).

* Includes Eight inputs including one Direct analog plus AM/FM radio tuner.
 * Two zones plus headphone jack. Outputs are both RCA and XLR-balanced type.

 * Includes remote control, original box, owner's manual.

 * Inputs for video are Triple-RCA-style component video, RCA-style composite video, and S-Video -- not HDMI.

There is no HDMI.  Repeat, there is no HDMI.

CONDITION:
 * This unit works fine 90% of the time, but it has the following issues:

(1) Volume control knob on the front panel is finicky. (Said to be a common point of failure on this model). You have to turn it several revolutions, or slowly, for it to work. If you rotate the knob at normal speed, it might go the opposite direction; probably an encoder issue. I have not attempted repair. Workaround: use the remote control.  Also, my toddler pulled on the knob so it is now wobbly too.

(2) A few times a year, Digital decoding stops working correctly. Occasionally no audio, sometimes the rear channels come out the front, etc.
Easy Workaround: It comes back to normal if you pause playback, interrupt the audio stream, then hit play again. (For example, pause the Tivo/AppleTV/BD player, rewind 2 seconds to interrupt the digital audio stream, then press Play -- then the condition is corrected and the audio comes back.)

(3) Remote does not light up (might be low batteries) and the painted-on soft-touch finish is tacky to the touch.

THIS UNIT IS NOT PERFECT.  When it works, it sounds great-- stunning. When it doesn't work, it is briefly annoying.

I've replaced this unit with a modern (2017) Anthem MRX.

The physical condition is in pretty good shape -- it looks fine in our living room -- and would normally rate a 6 but with the electronics issues described, it may not qualify.
