I am the original owner of a matched pair of PSB Stratus Gold loudspeakers serial numbers DO533187 & DO533188. The speakers were made in Canada. The Stratus Golds were PSB’s flagship model in the 1990s. This is a three-way speaker featuring a 10-inch woofer that has a large 54-ounce magnet and long excursion voice coil. The design is basically a two-way speaker with an integral subwoofer that can produce tight, room-shaking deep bass. I’ve had these speakers for 20 years and they produce an open, detailed, clear soundstage, a solid low-frequency foundation, airy articulate highs, and an unmuddled, low-coloration midrange. Their sound is immediate and vibrant. The Stratus Gold’s potent, extended bass response contributes significantly to its overall impact and feeling of realism. These are 4-ohm impedance speakers, so you’ll need a high current amplifier. The Stratus Golds thrive on power and I’ve had great success driving them with an Aragon 4004 MkII power amplifier (400 W per channel into 4-ohms) – the Strats and the Aragon are a great match. The Strats should appeal both to audiophiles who emphasize accuracy and to those who want loud but clean rock. Each speaker can generate peaks in excess of 110 dB SPL above 26Hz and 120 dB above 60 Hz. These figures will improve for two speakers operating in stereo with bass signals common to both channels. All drivers are in excellent condition. Finish is light oak. Technical Specifications:  10-inch cone woofer, 6 inch cone midrange and 1 inch aluminum dome tweeter  Frequency Range: 25 Hz to 24 kHz (+/- 1dB 36 Hz to 20 kHz)  Sensitivity: 90dB/W/m in typical listening room  Speakers can be bi-wired or bi-amped  Dimensions: H 46.5 inches, W 13.5 inches, D 14.75 inches  Weight: 95 pounds each These speakers were rated Class B by Stereophile (the next best thing to the very best sound reproduction, cost is a factor, but most Class B components are still quite expensive) in the mid-1990s. Along with the speakers I will also include original owner’s manual, glossy paper Stereophile review reprint from Vol. 14 No. 2, and other PSB promotional literature. Pick up in Missouri is welcome, but will ship unit anywhere in the lower 48 states. Buyer pays shipping charges. Asking for $650 (retail price in 1991 was $2000). Thanks for looking. Please let me know if you have any questions. You can call me at (703) 342-9088. I am new to Audiogon, so I only have one positive feedback data point from a seller (Steve25) who I bought an amplifier from. Got to start somewhere.
