Rightful heir to legendary Quad ESL-63

"The ESL 988 replaces the much-loved ESL-63 model. Although of a similar size and proportions, the resemblance is only skin deep. More than 90% of the internal components that go to make up the ESL 988 have been re-designed, upgraded or modified from the ESL-63.

In the 20 years since the ESL-63 was conceived (1981) the improvements to materials led to improvements in virtually every component and area of construction. The new model has significantly better audio transformers, improved power supplies, diaphragms, strong heavyweight moulded base and grill assemblies.

The ESL 988 has improved structural integrity, which has improved the speakers performance way beyond that of the ESL-63. The ESL 988 has greatly improved dynamics and a smoother response it’s 20 year old predecessor."
