A vintage (circa 1967-1969) Sony 6060 FW stereo receiver in truly exceptional cosmetic condition. Please see the attached pics. This unit has undergone a partial restoration (by a local and well qualified tech) but still needs work and is thus being sold in "as is" condition.   Known issues: non-working "tape" inputs. FM radio "stereo multiple" requires further attention. (New replacement) power cord lacks restraining clasp/washer. There may be other issues that still need to be ironed out. (I'm not a tech.) Google/search "Sony 6060FW". Fully restored, this is an exceptional quality vintage stereo receiver with a build quality that falls squarely in "like a tank" territory and a sound quality matched by few and exceeded by far fewer still.
The backstory: I purchased the Sony locally from the original owner a few years ago. Per the gentleman, he had purchased it new to use as a backup when his McIntosh tube amp (which I also acquired) was being serviced. Plainly - given the very near to mint cosmetic condition of the receiver - that wasn't very often. (The original owner could recall using the 6060FW only a time or two before packing it away for what turned out to be a 45 + years slumber.) Following a try out, I turned the Sony over to a local tech I knew (and who I'd worked with many times before) for a complete checkup and servicing. Unbeknownst to me at the time, the tech was going through a serious life crisis that found him, ultimately, leaving not only his wife but his entire old life behind. Prior to his moving on, the tech did manage to complete the majority of the work I had contracted him to do. Said work included replacing all (known) out of spec capacitors, giving all the controls and switches a thoroughly cleaning, replacing the power cord and installing new faceplate lamps. Condition. With respect to cosmetics, this receiver rates between an 8/10 and a 9/10. (Again, it looks to have been barely used.) Please see the attached pics and judge for yourself. Note well that this is a very nearly 50 year old piece of electronic. If you desire more pics, please don't hesitate to request or ask. Functionality. Again, this sale is "as is" (see above). Though this is the first item I've sold on Audiogon, I've completed many a sale elsewhere online (eBay, via AudioKarma and others) having received 100% positive feedback on eBay. Please contact me for references.
The receiver will be double boxed and properly packaged for shipping to anywhere in the lower 48 US States. Shipping is a flat $75. (Shipping container dimensions: 27" length x 21" width x 16" depth, total weight is 52 pounds!)
