There's some confusion as to the nomenclature of the Regas so here's an explanation: The current product, RS1, is the third edition of the R1 series and retails for more than $750. These are second edition R1s. Rega made two editions both called the R1. The original R1 was less deep than the current RS1 and the second edition R1 (let's just call it the R1 II) and had rounded corners. I am selling the second edition R1 which is the best out of the three. Here's why: The differences between the RS1 and the R1 II are the grill is a different shape, they took off the Rega logo that was covered by the grill, and the veneer is a lower grade. The latter two being to stay competitively priced when the pound was rising against the US dollar - US, at this time, being the market with the most growth potential as the UK market was saturated. All other things are the same. The R1 II is a better speaker (only in terms of the finish) The sound is equal.
Here is one of the best bang for buck monitors out there. I'm one of those lucky guys who's wife likes hifi as well (yes, I am in WAF bliss). These were in her system but she is upgrading. I had these paired with a Jolida 102B with great success. Great low end for a small package - they sound full range and I prefer them to the R3 which I tried out and did not like compared to these - base was not as tight and mids not as good as the R1. Good looking speakers with real wood veneer - cherry in this case. The picture, using flash, makes these look horrible. they really look pretty good and look new with the grills on. As you can see, there is some fade in the finish. This is normal and they were never in the direct sun. Drivers are perfect. no nicks or scratches. Pics just highlight the corners and make them look bad - they are fine. Will ship in factory packaging. I'll pay the paypal but you pay the shipping. Price is consistent with about a half dozen other pairs I've seen here on Agon in the last few years.
