This is a somewhat rare and brilliantly engineered little non-oversampling DAC that uses the Cirrus Logic CS8412-IS receiver chip, which is the best in my opinion, and a single Phillips TDA1545A DAC chip. A highly recommended chip. There are a lot of non-oversampling DACs out there but this has something special. Pure involvement. This DAC gets it right. The sound is very analog sounding with supreme definition throughout the spectrum. Bass is powerful and well defined, mids are smooth and 'real' sounding and the highs are extended with sparkle. Imaging is also very good. If your system is a bit forward or you can't listen to less than audiophile quality music for very long, this DAC will never make you want to stop listening.
The output from the DAC chip goes through a pair of AudioCaps that are bypassed with Nichicon BP series. No op-amps or resistors in the signal path. These replaced the cheap $2 that were installed. This $80 upgrade took the sound to a whole other level.
I've owned many others that used multiple TDA chips which is good for more voltage output but seems to hurt sound quality, I believe.
The output is .6 Volts or 600mV so use with a passive preamp may not provide enough gain. This unit was better than my Cambridge Audio DACMagic. You can see the sigtone.net website for more details.
No external wire;
All components and connectors are on PCB board.
Premium grade on-board Pure Copper Gold-plated Telfon RCA Jacks
The best digital receiver - CS8412-IS is used (not industrial version of CS8412-CS)
The best Toslink receiver in the world- Toshiba TRX179 with self-tapping hole (support data rate 12.8Mb/s)
TDA1545a, Another well-renowned DAC chip.
The beauty of the DAC is "No Active I/V stage at the Output!"State-of-the-art components:
Philips Aluminium case 036 series, Sanyo OS-CON SVP series (very expensive!), Vishay Dale, WIMA, NOS Siemens
Well-renowned Motorola voltage regulators are used
2mm WHITE FR4 PCB board
Individual voltage regulator for each module; Totally eliminate the noise and interference between analogue and digital parts
An over-dimensioned power supply is included (100-240Vac at 50/60Hz)NO LED! NO POWER INDICATION! No on/off switch! As I do suggest u turn it on all the time.
