Excellent condition Van Alstine. An equivalent amp today from Van Alstine runs $2,000. You can't get sounds as great as this without paying much more. I believe it's 200 watts per channel, could be 220 (since 440 is in the name).
From Van Alstine: "The Omega III amplifier circuits have no overall feedback, thus the input circuits simply cannot overload on an overall loop error correction signal - that signal does not exist. However, feedback does exist, but as a unique hybrid buffered active powered feedback loop matched perfectly (electrically and thermally) to the hybrid buffered input parameters. Thus not only is the amplifer perfectly balanced top to bottom, (so incredibly stable that the usual DC balance adjustment trimmer is unnecessary), but it is balanced in its input and feedback drive parameters too. You have never heard an amplifier with this capability before thus listening to the true performance of a music reproduction system with an Omega III amplifier finally realizes the true meaning of the term 'high fidelity.'"
Here's a review on a different but similar Van Alstine from a user on Audioreview dot com:
The AVA OmegaStar 440hc is a great value for the money. Detailed-smooth and dimensional. The build quality is excellent. I have had 5 different AVA amplifiers over the last 18 years and none of them have ever needed service. I have to again stress the value in the amplifer. If your in the $2000 price range you should check it out.t. When compaired to the Audio Research D400 MKII ($5995 new, $2000-$2500 used) the AVA's image is wider that the ARC D400 MKII. There is more bass slam with the AVA too. The Image is more forward with the AVA. The D400MKII is smother in the midrange and highs. Is this the best amp I have had? NO, there are definately better sounding amps but from my experience you need to pay a considerable higher price to get something better.
Current system: Linn LP12/ Ittock/K18/Denon 103D, Audio Research LS25 MKII, Marantz SA8260, Magnepan 3.6 or Rogers LS3/5a's/Satterberg MW-2's, Richard Gray Pro 400.
