Questions for the seller
Hi, Is this amplifier still available? First owner? How long have you had it? Any problems ? is ti fully functioning? Why sell it? Thanks much Happy Holidays Scientist 73
I have sale in progress, waiting for amp to arrive safe and sound to buyer with no issues. This is in my opinion one of the best amps B&K made. All of the minor issues with the older designs was addressed. No mosfet mist, a soft start circuit was installed eliminating the thump when you turned amp on. The plastic mosfet outputs in the reference line sound very musical like the old metal can mosfet outputs. The earlier design plastic mosfets were not as good. The reference line has a bigger toroid in it and more output devices per channel than older designs as well.It is not as pretty as the old rack handled amps but it runs a lot cooler, pushes out more current sounds just as good and you can get parts for them. This reference line is the same basic design of the old EX-442 amp from 30 years ago.It is two mono amplifiers in one chassis. Individual circuit boards and main power supply caps for each channel and a large torroid with an individual winding for each channel. this is a true dual mono design. The only way it could be truer is if you had an individual power transformer for each channel which some of the very early EX-442 amps had.No problems whatsoever. I bought amp on a whim. I always liked their old metal can amps but sold them and had a couple of the early plastic mosfet amps that I did not like. The reference was a pleasant surprise, they got it right in my opinion.i sold amp because it was overkill for the speakers I was using.I did not need all that power and current for my Snell Type D speakers. The ref line were some of the last amps B&K made before they filed for bankruptcy and were bought by ATI. I believe the 200.2 to 200.7 ref line amps were their last line. The ref 2220 come up every now and then and on the low end go for $450 and on the high end $525 before shipping. I sold mine for $475 shipped to a guy on US Audio Mart which was a very fair price. Cosmetically mine was very good and was from day one in a non-smoking environment.Equipment from smokers will always have a tar-like build-up on the insides of an amp.If you think the ref 2220 is too much for your speakers, I always like their old ST-202 metal can amps.It was my favorite until I bought the Ref 2220. Stay away from the old metal can ST-140 amps. The ST-202 sounded just as good, had more power, twice the current, and was stable into low impedance loads. I have had six B&K amps over a 30 year period and not one ever had a parts failure. They all had very good build quality, components, and were easy to work on. Hope this helps and merry x-mas.
