The Belles Audio DMM stereo preamplifier offers the audiophile unbelievably dynamic sound regardless of the source: sound with an open, clean top, a detailed, smooth mid range and a powerful, intense bass. In the design of the unit, Dave Belles' goal was to obtain the best performance possible for moving magnet phono cartridge output without the use of an additional head preamplifier stage so that the signal path would be kept uncluttered. The stages in the direct path are discrete and biased class A except in the tone circuit where a Bi-FET operational amplifier is used. The DMM (discrete moving magnet) amplifier features polypropylene capacitors and ultra low noise transistors.
The Belles also offers unlimited flexibility in switching and source selection. High end preamplifiers normally do not come with a host of features, but with Belles you get all the features you need. You get tone controls, a subsonic filter, a muting switch, tone control bypass networks and the ability to listen to one source while recording another and to dub between the two recording loops. Belles gives you features, flexibility and highly detailed sound.
In keeping with high performance standards, Belles preamplifiers are purposely not equipped with power switches. The industry accepts the fact that all preamplifiers, both tube and solid state, perform and sound best after the circuitry has been on for a time and has had a chance to stabilize. This practice maintains the true character of the sound and also prevents possibly damaging pops and clunks throughout the speaker system or the need for a turn-on delay system.
A US based manufacturer of high quality audio amplification, Belles Research Corporation was founded by David Belles who designs and manufactures amplifiers under the Power Modules brand name. At Belles, each preamplifier is carefully built by hand to make sure that all components fit and are not abused, unlike products that are fabricated by automated methods. Top grade discrete components are used in all circuits and all transistors and switches reflect Belles' concern for the human engineering aspects of his products. Each unit is carefully assembled and final tested by dedicated skilled technicians to ensure quality, reliability and performance.
