Here is an amazing amp built according to Nelson Pass' Sony vfet amplifier Part 2 article (check "articles" section of First Watt site for details). It is a pure class A design using NOS Sony 2SK82 and 2SJ28 VFETs (aka Static Induction Transistor aka SIT) in push-pull configuration using no negative feedback. The Jfets add clarity (if you've ever heard J2) and Vfets add a density of tone and SUPER tight robust bass (like FW SIT). 20W/8 ohm 40 into 4 so...you do the math. I would say it seems a little bit more powerful than your normal 20w amp. It was way more power than I needed for my 97dB Phys in Open Baffles, but also pushed my high-80s Accuton/Raal monitors really well, too.
It sounds a LOT like the First Watt SIT-2, more so than any other First Watt amp. An amazing clarity combined with super holographic dense images. It's a real treat to listen to and I would confidently say that if it's power output is within your range this is probably the best amp for the money you could possibly get your hands on. A comparable SIT would cost you a lot more and they don't pop up that often. Grab it while you can, you won't be disappointed with this very special amp.
Some specs:

■ Frequency Response: +0, -0.5 dB at 5 Hz ~ 100 kHz 20W /0.05%THD 1kHz 8 Ω
■ Output power: 20W / 1% THD 1kHz 8 Ω
■ Distortion: 0.025% THD, 1W output at 1 kHz, 8 Ω
■ Input impedance: 47.5k Ω
■ Damping Factor: 65

Runs a bit hot as expected for class A. Looks exactly like a First Watt amp (chassis, layout, excellent workmanship) except for the label.
