H2O Audio Signature S250 Dual Mono Amplifier Dynamic, Clear and Musical

I purchased this wonderful amplifier after Henry Ho (the amplifier designer and builder) sent me a sample amplifier to audition. At the time I had two amplifiers in my home for comparison, my venerable McIntosh MC2000 and a pair of Edge G8+ monoblocks. Both top quality amplifiers (although the “Big Mac” after extensive tube rolling ruled the roost). What peaked my interest was an Audiogon friend in California mentioning to me that he sold off his Audio Research tubed amplifier and was now using the H2O S250 as his new reference amp. I knew how conservative he was and how he revered the AR amp so I figured this must really be special. It is!

I’ve had many amps come and go over the past decades and nothing has been quite as good as the tube rolled MC2000. However the H20 amp was closer than any solid state or tube amp I’ve owned and the list is quite long. After spending two weeks with the demo unit Henry sent me I really did not want to send it off to the next person to demo, so I immediately ordered the S250 in the silver finish (the black just looks a bit basic in my opinion). After I ordered the new amp I sold off the G8+ monoblocks which were good but not up to the same level as the S250 in my system (Hovland HP100 (tube rolled), Lector cd player (tube rolled), Sony SCD-1 with a Dodson Da217MKII D DAC, Wilson watt Puppy 7’s, and more..).

My intention was to set up a second system using the S250 at our 2nd home but this never materialized. I decided to sell the S250 (which is not as yet broken-in) as well as all my audio equipment. Last year we downsized from a large home to a condo in the French Quarter and a fishing camp (this was a fun move but the audio equipment and sound will be missed).
