The Jeff Rowland MODEL 2
A beautifully maintained Classic (1) Original Owner
Very few light scratches and no major damage to chassis! Batteries in BPS unit have been replaced/ tested (about 2 months ago)
The rare and superb Rowland Model 2 is the kind of amplifier that will make you forget about the electronics and allow you to connect with the music.
Introduced during the days when Solid State MONSTER amplifiers began roving the earth, Jeff Rowland (and a few other talented electronic designers) approached audio reproduction from a different perspective. 20 bipolar output devices per channel...30?...40 devices per channel? (MOST of today's REFERENCE level mega power designs are under a new category of understanding with regards to small-signal design and manipulation/ amplification...)
Bottom line, why multiply mediocre circuit topologies that CANNOT get the first watt right???
Witness...First Watt (Nelson Pass) and Daniel Hertz Swiss (Mark Levinson) just to name a few...MOST SANE music lovers have no use for a 500+ Watt amplifier...(there is a reason why TONS of designers out there keep producing 10-60 watt VACUUM TUBE AMPLIFIERS year after year!!!)
Educated music lovers know that in NORMAL listening, we rarely exceed the necessity of 2-5 watts of actual power. (OK, perhaps 30-40 Watts continuous, while listening to sine waves or white noise/ POWER USERS, FYI, the difference between 100 W and 75 W is only 1.25 dB!)
Modestly rated at 75 Watts per channel, this amplifier has a presentation that leans slightly to the warm side of tonality. It does NOT HIDE or GLOSS OVER details, however...the overall resolution of timbres and textures are presented in a "mid-hall" fashion. (No listeners fatigue after a few months)
If your loudspeakers are capable, life-like images are painted in natural detail. (Not highlighted in a sonic spectacular fashion) Layers of sound will become more apparent, if the information is uncovered by your source components, across a deep, seamless sound stage. Macro and micro-dynamics are more nuanced, growing from the quiet black backgrounds the Battery Power Supply provides!
