Here is the history of the amp: I replaced an older solid state receiver with this amp and picked up a like new pair of B&W DM7 speakers to replace a pair of Rogers LS3/5A speakers I had on my book shelf. Before I go too far, this was my office system.
My home office was rather smallish and the DM7s took up way too much space. My wife tried not to be too much of a nag about the whole thing but it was obvious that the speakers had to go. The crowded space was obnoxious. I sold the speakers to a close friend and put the amp back in the box. The heat of the amp was also a bit much in the small room as well.
My dear and well meaning wife bought me a Bose Wave radio for my office. I suffered with that for countless years. It finally broke. Before I threw it away, I ran a stake through it to make sure it was really dead. She asked me if I wanted another one for my upcoming birthday and I told her NO !!
I had my main system set up in the lower level which was quite satisfying. It was a CAT preamp, CAT amps, Oracle turntable, Luxman DU 80, Audio Note DAC –3, McIntosh MR-71 Tuner, and Hales T-8 speakers. If I wanted to listen to music, I would simply go to the lower level.
I forget exactly how long ago I bought the amp but I know it was a while ago. It spent most of its life in the box. It has never been modified or repaired. I replaced the tubes because they were cheep crap Chinese tubes. The new tubes are all high quality NOS tubes. These tubes have roughly 3 hours on them. The amp sounds far better now than it ever did before.
