The Evolution 402e is equipped with two 2,200 VA transformers and 188,000 μF of power supply capacitance. This power source is the backbone for the output of the Evolution 402e. With this foundation, the Evolution 402e delivers 400 watts into 8 Ohms, 800 watts into 4 Ohms. A new high speed transistor used in the power output section is configured in a unique circuit topology. The circuit itself is an ingenious example of the expression “more hands make light work.” Three times the number of transistors typically used in a conventional amplifier are employed in an intricate array called Active Cascode Topology™. Each device works a fraction of a normal workload and thus effortlessly performs its job. This Krell Evolution 402e was manufactured as an Evolution 402 and upgraded at the Krell factory to the “e” version for improved sound quality and minimum power consumption in Standby (2W).
