For sale is my Olive Naim NAC 82 & NAPSC in excellent condition. Rated 8 out of 10 to reflect age of components casing, packaging and accessories. The front fascia appears perfect with the exception of a pinpoint prick in the paint along the front top edge- to small to photograph. While Audiogon's rating system would have this rate a 7, I believe that the remaining external condition along with the all important inside (just rebuilt) averages this out to an 8. Inside, the 82 is a 9+! Read on.
The serial #'s are 146472 (NAC 82) & 146601 (PSC) indicating a mid-to-late 1998 build date. As such, the 82 includes as OEM the POTS8 module. Original box, remote and manual are included. NOTE: you can use the 82 with later NARCOM remotes (I used my CD5XS NARCOM 4, which effortlessly switches between CDP, DAC, and PRE), however, the original remote does work just fine.
I am the second owner of this 82/PSC. It was purchased from the original owner in October 2015. I sent the 82 off to AVOptions in March 2016 for a complete rebuild service. This also included a recapping of the PSC. This represents a $1200 value. As Chris West, the excellent proprietor of AVOptions states about servicing Olive era components, particularly Olive Preamps: "The parts are identical in type to the originals and sourced from the Naim factory. Notably though, improvements in parts manufacturing over the years has resulted in a higher spec for the tantalum caps. Just one of the reasons the Olive preamps can provide such remarkably good sound quality!"
The 82 resided on my FRAIM in a pet, smoke, and small-child free home. I powered the 82 first via a CB HICAP and later via a HICAP DR. The 82 could easily distinguish the sound quality differences between these two power supplies. I had a small piece of wood painted ebony by my local woodworker that I placed the NAPSC on. This raised the NAPSC off the carpet (you can see the piece of wood in the pictures) which is important to help dissipate heat. The Naim forum councils against placing the NAPSC on the FRAIM, so this makes for a nice solution. I will include two pieces of wood (one never used) as I no longer have a NAPSC.
I fully intended to make the 82/PSC my preamp for many years; however, within the last 6-8 weeks a deal to good to pass on a 52/SC appeared and I had to take it. Therefore, this 82/PSC has been carefully stored in its box and original packaging over the last 4-6 weeks waiting for a new home.
Sure you can buy a new NAC 282 for $7995, OR you could save $5500 and pick up one of the best late model examples of the 82, completely restored earlier this year!
PayPal fee covered at list price. Will ship only within CONTUS. 82/PSC Box will be double boxed for safe shipping. Buyer pays flat $50 shipping fee. I will ship within 2 business days from receipt of payment.
