The Plinius 8150 is one of
audio’s true ‘classic’ designs having a devoted following that reveres its
combination of performance at a reasonable price. This integrated has been
thoroughly bench-tested and meets or exceeds all of its specifications and
One of its most popular
points is how good it sounds at low volumes. Richness and fullness at lower
levels makes even background music satisfying.
It boasts a robust 150 watts-per-channel into 8-ohms, 230 into 4-ohms, running
the first 25 watts in Class A then switching to Class AB the rest of the way.
The 8150 combines large parts of the preamp stage of the magnificent Plinius
M16 preamp along with circuitry very similar to that found in the Plinius class-A
The front panel is clean and uncluttered, making it easy to operate. There are
ten pairs of RCAs on the rear including a very high quality MM phono stage. There
are line level inputs labeled for tuner and CD player, along with two tape
loops. It features pre-out connections. Heavy duty gold plated 5-way binding posts.
The are two sets of output terminals for each channel to simplify bi-wiring.
Finally, the rear panel includes an external processing loop for a home theater
processor. Basically this is another tape loop, but with the loop occurring
after the volume control instead of before. This is a great idea, as it allows
the inclusion of home theater in a high quality audio system.
