Stereo Pre-amp, solid-state
I purchased this unit new in 1990. It has been in its
original box, in my closet, for the last 12 years. We changed homes and I was
not able to maintain a dedicated music listening room.
I recently took it out, set it up, and ran it for about 40
hours (late January-early February of this year). Made in the USA.
Even if you are only needing a very good phono pre-amp this
unit will fit the bill quite nicely.
All inputs are RCA - no HDMI or Coaxial connections.
I ran source signals through the phono and CD inputs.
I don't have a tape deck anymore so that function was not
checked. I have no reason to believe the tape inputs would not function
perfectly, as they did 12 years ago.
I checked operation in all three pre-amplifier modes;
straight-wire, high level, and mono. All functioned normally.
Front panel controls are CTS fully-enclosed silver contact
models. The volume control is a 32 position Nobel precision part.
Features include 1% metal-film resistors, custom-wound
polystyrene capacitors, dual matched J-FET pair on the phone stage and a remote
power supply (250 w, custom wound). In 1990, this preamplifier was said to have
the most accurate RIAA curve as any other offered at the time.
The front panel is 1/4" plate aluminum. All lettering on
the front panel is bright and not worn. Lettering on the back panel is in great
shape as well.
There are two small scratches. One on top of the case - a
"u-shaped" scratch that I could not capture well in the photos -very faint (~1/4"). The second is linear (less that 1/4 inch) and located just
below the serial number tag. This one does show paint loss in the photo.
The pictures represent current appearance and condition. I
did need to replace the "legs" three times so the bottom is a bit
messy looking. The adhesive on the rubber feet does not hold so I resorted to
using clear glue after the second replacement.
Includes original shipping box and shipping insert (foam
clam-shell), original owner’s manual and original resistor set (for tuning MC
cartridges)

- Output impedance 50 ohms in active, variable in straight
wire with maximum of 10k at lowest volume.
- S/N ratio MM: 82dB A-weighted.
- MC: 78dB A-weighted (5mV reference).
- High level: 100dB A-weighted (active), unmeasurable
(straight wire).
