Tandberg 3009 A Monoblock Amplifiers

TANDBERG 3009A Mono Block Amplifier Pair.

Up for sale is a very rare pair of Tandberg 3009 A audiophile-grade mono amplifiers. These are the second iteration (A version) of the 3009. This amplifier design is a mono design of Tandberg's highly regarded 3006A stereo amplifier. These were designed and made Norway in limited numbers. The 3009A mono blocs hardly ever come up for sale as owners cherish this masterpiece of amplifier design and never let go.

Listening reviews I have read praise these amps for their remarkable width and depth of the sound-stage as well as very high-definition (detail) of the individual performers and instruments. In 1986, The 3009A's were often auditioned and compared with KRELL KMA 100 mono blocks and excelled in some areas. I read an older article a while ago that blind tested these amps against solid state Mcintosh amps from 1986 and the listeners could not tell a difference.

Owned by an electronics engineer and collector of only TANDBERG audio  gear for his personal listening. These were a back-up pair for his system. He wants to sell his audio gear as he and his wife want to down-size and travel. I will be listing more of his Tandberg collection in the coming weeks.

These are high quality amplifiers in a mono design with a sonically superior toroidal transformer, polypropylene capacitors, 1% metal film resistors, ceramic base pots, 0 dB negative feedback and no voltage or current limiting. No output chokes which is rare for a solid state design. The TPA 3009A uses a total of 8 MOSFET output devices to deliver 200 watts into 8 ohm. The use of MOSFET output devices is a deliberate, high-quality design choice to minimize distortion and duplicate the warmth of tube sound in a solid state design.

This pair is very rare. They include the rosewood end caps which are impossible to find. Cosmetically the fronts are excellent. The tops have some very minor scuffs and nicks. Please look at the photos carefully and ask any questions regarding the condition before bidding/buying.

Both amps were tested by myself and the owner before this listing and they appear to work fine and sound great.

These are very high quality, audiophile-grade amplifiers and weigh 25 pounds each. They are being sold as a pair. I can only give you a rough estimate on the shipping as the final cost will be based upon the final box size, weight and your destination.

Shipping

I will pack each amp very well in a sturdy (2X) wall cardboard shipper with adequate foam padding. I have shipped many vintage components. If you wish a local pick up in Burlington, CT you are welcome.

I will be packing and shipping in two separate boxes via UPS. Audiogon shipping calculator will not handle two boxes so ask me for a shipping cost before buying. Domestic shipments must have full final sale value insurance. Overseas shipments must ship with full final sale value insurance and registered mail.
