Legendary high-end player put out by Sony in 2001, and still used as a reference by many audiophiles. Built like the proverbial General Sherman tank, it weighs 35 pounds, has a metal loading drawer, and works perfectly in all modes and all outputs (including multichannel). This particular unit is in outstanding condition and looks new, having had very light usage (it has been on the shelf in a system I use mostly for movies, in a pet-and-smoke-free environment). In the interest of full disclosure (and in response to questions), what I meant by "refurbishment" in earlier editings of this listing is as follows: after acquiring this unit from its original owner (a close friend who upgraded to a DCS), I had it completely gone through by Sony in 2008, for correction of some known issues with SACD playback, such as "skipping" on some discs. (So, if you have heard about those issues on this model, not to worry--they have been taken care of on this unit!) It now plays all discs flawlessly, and sounds better than ever. It has seen less than 300 hours use since the updating. Unit is really in 9/10 physical-condition-wise; I rate it 8/10 only because of age. I am letting it go because I want to upgrade my blu-ray player. The original box was lost when I sent the unit to Sony. However, I do have the original manual and remote, and will bubble-wrap the unit within an inch of its life and ship it to you in a good strong box. I am seeking a quick and efficient sale, and I note the market for these players is a bit soft at the moment. So I have priced the unit well below its Audio Blue Book value, and will pay for shipping. Feel free to check my feedback; and please, serious inquiries/offers only.
