Stereolab Angelus Loudspeakers

The Stereolab Angelus speakers are the creation of Chris Sommovigo, designer of some of the most sought after audio equipment on the market. Chris’ approach to all his endeavors is one of refinement and ultimate execution and the Angelus loudspeakers epitomize that. Chris admits that he is an “imaging freak” and by having a coaxial-mounted tweeter inside the mid/woofer driver, the result is a point source speaker that maintains the coherence that single-driver speakers are known for without sacrificing the high frequencies. The sonic portrayal of these speakers is every bit that of what Chris claims with the imaging. They disappear as apparent sources and throw a soundscape that leaves no trace of the speakers, but that of a performance taking place. The soft dome tweeter is smooth and never aggressive. They left no listening fatigue no matter if I used them with a solid-state amp, tubes, or even Class D amplifiers. The Luxman L590A II, 30 WPC, Class A integrated was absolutely seductive. The speaker sensitivity and efficiency is stated as 88dB at 8 ohms. They are fine examples of furniture that look absolutely first rate in a living room setting. The hand-rubbed lacquer is a high gloss finish that gives the tiger maple grain an iridescence and depth. The trim on the port and along the front and back of the speakers is bloodwood, which gives a nice contrast with the lighter maple. You can take this speaker up a few more notches in performance with crossover component upgrades using Duelund capacitors, inductors, and resistors. Chris says this crossover upgrade makes it even more engaging. I do not have the original boxes but I can meet someone a reasonable distance from Omaha to deliver. Local delivery is preferred.
