Tag McLaren 100x5r 2 channel(100 watts 8 ohms) audio power amplifier. It has garnered a long list of stellar reviews in the UK and Europe, but not as well known in the US. I would characterize the sound as very clear, smooth and musical. Compared, with the Linn Klout($4000), the Klout was more audiophile with slightly better presence and ability to unravel the music, but it was also drier and less continuous(smooth or tube sounding) than the Tag. The Klout was more self effacing and the Tag McLaren more transparent. The Klout more solid state sounding, the Tag more tube sounding(but no tube bloat). In sum I would say the Klout is more for audiophiles and the Tag McLaren more suited for music lovers. The Tag I would not recommend for "head bangers" as it is more refined sounding than providing ultimate "slam". I can't imagine the Tag not beating any Stereophile Class B amplifier you throw at it. It's that good.
The amplifier modules are completely dual mono down to their power supplies. This amp could be ordered with up to 5 modules for home theater use. Don't let that put you off however as it is a stellar 2 channel performer. Top notch components are used throughout such as Vishay metal film resisters and Wima polypropylene capacitors. I have a pdf copy of the manual if you wish to look at it. Check out the many positive reviews by searching for Tag Mclaren 100x5r. Great attention to detail was taken by the designers as the binding posts were custom made for optimal sound quality and ease of use. They are the best binding posts I have ever seen on an amplifier.
Offered at a great price only because the Tag McLaren name is not as well known here in the US.
