Thorens TD-160 Super Turntable + Alphason Xenon Transcription Toneram. An exceptional turntable and tonearm combination that offers reference capabilities.

Thorens TD-160 Super. A legendary turntable that is renowned for its playback and “… is known as one of the best turntables in the audio history.” When introduced by Thorens, it was sold in limited quantities. Rare. A very pure and simple turntable with a dampened sub-chassis and a heavy wood plinth and base.

It has been cleaned and restored, including:
• Platter has been polished and buffed by hand. Carnuba wax has been applied to the edge for protection.
• Isolation material to dampen the platter has been placed between the platter and sub-platter. It is not permanently attached and easily removed.
• Custom tonearm mounting plate. Fabricated out of polycarbonate specifically for mounting the Alphason tonearm (and may work with other Linn mount tonearms).
• The dustcover is in very good condition with some light scratches. The Thorens TD-160 Super dust cover uses metal hinges with tension adjustment screws. Also, the cover is very easily removed for playback – it just lifts off the hinge 'channel' and slides back on when needed.
• Plinth cleaned and conditioned, and the original black color has been maintained. There are some bumps but nothing major.
• New belt has been installed.
• Custom brass isolation cones have been installed to enhance performance, black in color. They also allow leveling of the turntable. The brass point receptacles are included. The isolation cones are mounted on a solid, heavy base.
• Included with the turntable are the original Thorens instructions booklet, original black tonearm mounting plate, and the original box with foam inserts.

Alphason Xenon Transcription Pick-Up Arm. Rare. A great tonearm with a titanium tube. It features an ultra-rigid design machined from titanium right from the bearing to head shell as one piece.
• This Alphason tonearm was developed specifically for suspended turntables and works exceptionally well with this Thorens. It has some marks on the head shell and base. For the most part, I used plastic washers when mounting a cartridge to protect the finish.
• Included are the original Alphason instructions, tonearm mounting template, original inner and outer boxes with foam inserts, as well as a correction memo from Alphason. Includes cables.
• Note that the Alphason arm was designed to drop into a Linn armboard and had the same effective length.

This is a great combination of turntable and tonearm that completes favorably with many reference, top of the line setups. A nice classic.
