Milbert BaM 230 stereo tube car amp – Treasure to listen- rare find

The one and only 12Volt tube car amp. There is nothing better for mid-range and tweeter amplification than "tubes". It is the voltage swing that gives an amplifier all the sound attributes such as dimensional space and natural presentation that musicians and audiophiles seek. Especially in close enclosed car sound environment where you cannot focus sound like a home audio system, you can only create air, body and transparency.

The reason why tubes sound better is: it is well noted that the best of the bipolar transistor’s made in transistor amps, are only capable of a 200 voltage swing while a conventional tube amp is capable of 600 – 800 volts or in example: 5,000 volts if you have a true servo tube amp. which electrostatic speakers require. This is why transistor amps will always sound hard and metallic in the mid-range and tweeter frequencies.

Having experienced so many super high end audio systems, and listened to transistor vs tube amplification, you will become convinced of the superior sound advantage of tubes. Don’t take my word, take a ride to Guitar Center or a music shop that sells electric guitar amps. and listen to the difference between the transistor amps and the tube amps. You should always compare your sound system to the “live” instruments and not some magazine review or stupid dealer promoting expensive audio equipment.

It should be noted; in the operation of a tube amps, it will take time for the tubes to come up to power which takes about 20 to 30 seconds before sound can be heard from your signal source such as a Radio, MP 3 player or CD transport.

Even-though this amps is in good working order with new tubes, the amp should give you years and years of continual use before you will have to re-tube the amp This is usually just a simple process of switching out the old tubes with new tubes. These replacement tubes are easily found on Ebay as “New Old Stock - N.O.S.”.

In particular, this amp has been improved with more accurate sounding Military “Vitamin Q” capacitors and military spec. red base RCA tubes. The sound improvements are amazingly better or in other words, night and day to the stock version. To the amazement of the manufacturer, Al Milbert (the designer of the Milbert amp) could not believe the sound improvements.

It also should be noted to my knowledge, that this is the only car tube amplifier available making this amp a real treasure and rare find for car audiophiles.
