AUDIO RESEARCH SP20 PREAMPLIFIER AND REFERENCE 75 SE POWER AMPLIFIER
OUR STORE DISPLAY UNITS. Light use. On display approximately one year. Perhaps the best sounding combination for the money that Audio Research has ever produced. MSRP is $19,000
This preamp and amp sound so good that we could use every descriptive word we know and still be unable to adequately describe the sound. If you are reading this you already have a pretty good idea how good these components are.
So good that professional audio product reviewers cannot bear to part with them:
Sound Stage Ultra - "Do the math: For $9000, you get a preamp roughly equivalent to $15,500 in separates. More important, it sounds wonderful. I didn’t have a PH8 phono preamp to compare, but in most respects the SP20 did sound slightly better than my LS27 line stage, and its controls are easier to operate. The frosting on the cake is that all of this quality and value are packed into a case whose beauty rivals almost anything on the market. What’s not to like? I’m buying the review sample."
Stereophile - "I would suspect that unless someone has very insensitive loudspeakers and/or a very large room, it would be difficult to make a case for why anyone would need an amplifier with more power than the Reference 75.
John Atkinson has said that there is no greater praise a reviewer can give a component than to purchase it for use in his own reference system. And although I loved my time with the Reference 75, and felt it equaled or exceeded the performance of my Reference 110 overall, I still love my Ref 110. With the decline of the financial-services industry in the recent meltdown, I'm earning a fraction of what I did 10 years ago, even as I have one child beginning college this year and another not far behind. I can't justify the luxury of purchasing a new stereo amplifier this year.
The hell with it. I'm buying the Audio Research Reference 75."
