Up for sale is my custom 6L6 stereo tube power amp made by Jim Nichols.
I had this amp made a few years ago via a series of email chats with Jim. The following are the main points from him:
1.) The chassis is from a Hammond organ.
2.) This amp will run 6L6, 6V6, EL34, and similar power tubes.
3.) 12AU7 and 6SN7 tubes are also used.
4.) Power is 30-35 wpc max (less with lower power tubes).
5.) It has a switch for rectification - SS vs. tube.
The good news is that the amp sounds great and is extremely versatile. It looks a little funky but if that doesn't bother you, you can get a VERY nice tube sound from just about any set of speakers. My favorite tubes in it have been the same JJ 6L6's I fell in love with before I bought this amp. Before I packed it up, it was driving my Fritz Carbon 7 monitors (also for sale) in what I consider to be a perfect package.
The bad news is that this amp has been blowing fuses on me since the last hurricane swept through. (This is where the 5/10 condition comes from.) I'm going through a divorce at the moment so getting the amp fixed is a low priority.
Cosmetically, the amp is in great shape. The front power light works and the chassis paint is pretty much perfect. Jim used a lot of good older parts (tube sockets, trannies, etc.) so the amp has a decidedly "retro" look to it.
I paid $950 new for the amp but I am looking to let it go for $400. At that price, I can work with the buyer to include a nice set of tubes for when it's working again.
