NOW AT A LOWER PRICE! This is a classic Quicksilver MX-190 stereo tube amplifier from the 1980s. It has been in storage for some years before being taken out last year and tested. There was a faulty bias pot and a couple of iffy tubes in the amp, but after some TLC and new parts my serviceman got it up and running to great effect. I have tested it for a number of hours over several days and it is stable and quiet. Warm up circuit works correctly. The perforated cage cover is a little scruffy, and the rest of the chassis shows marks from age and use. During shipping some years back the carrier dropped it or hit the lower left hand corner of the front faceplate and made a bend and crinkle in the metal. This is easily seen in the photos. Granted this is not an amplifier for someone who wants a beautiful showpiece, as I cannot in good conscience give it anything more than a 5/10 in the cosmetics department. This is an amp for someone who wants 90 watts per side of tube power with a big, open, glorious sound. Bass is remarkably powerful, and the amp is very sweet and quiet and strong. It is also extremely heavy, and I would prefer to not have to ship it. However, I will do so if need-be. If shipped. this amp will be over-packed to avoid damage, and thus shipping will not be cheap. But for what is, in effect, a poor-man's Jadis Defy-7 stereo tube amp, the price of admission here is very reasonable. These are very rare, so do not miss out on this opportunity. Questions for the seller
how long have you had it? I had one and sold it a couple years ago, mine was mint since I bought it from a friend of mine who hardly ever used it. Its sound was or is the most open rear hall ambience or soundstage I ever heard. It had more of that than even my big CJ Premier One C, I loved it too so I decided to sell the MX-190. I had so many amps of vintage state It was hard to choose. I had still the original Mullard power tubes, the others were both Mullard and Amperex. What brands are the ones in this MX? Les
Hi Les, I got thre amp as part of an estate sale for my friend who owned it for many years. He got it from [filtered] about 12 years ago and has played it ever since. I confess I did not take note of the brand of tubes. Probably a mix of brands and such as the amp's owner was know for that kind of thing. He passed away recently and I had it serviced to proper operation by my local tech. It does have a lovely, open sound and is quite gutsy in the bass. Scot
is there a bias meter with this amp? I had one with my other one. Also any paper on what the volts to be set on each tube? Les
Hi Les, I gave a wrong answer before. I do not have a bias meter for this amp, but one cannot be hard to find. The manual can be downloaded on the Quicksilver site. Thanks, Scot
