This is one of the beautiful ‘works of art’ that Sherwood manufactured, the S-5000 II integrated stereo amplifier. This amplifier has been recently professionally serviced and updated (see pic of the receipt). Everything was upgraded to bring this vintage beauty up to date. When completed, the shop owner said, "this is one sweet sounding amp."
What others have said about this amplifier, "Sherwood built this beauty on a copper plated steel chassis. The styling is pure post-modern elegance. No other amps of that era had such high styling. The nameplate says 80-watt Stereo amplifier, 40-watts per channel music power. That translates to around 28-watts RMS per channel. This Sherwood is a fantastic sounding amp, with plenty of punch on the low end and a balanced, open mid-range." Capacitors have been checked and replaced when needed with types of the highest quality. The General Electric 12AX7’s hand selected for low noise in the phono stage and 12AX7-EH’s in the line amp and drivers. The output tubes are a perfectly matched quad of Sylvania 7591A-EH.
• Face plate, Knobs and Chassis are in very good condition
• All resistors checked – 9 resistors, 17 capacitors and two rectifier diodes
• All switches and controls were cleaned and lubricated
• All controls function perfectly
• Driver balance and bias circuit critically aligned
Also as part of the package is an excellent, fully functional, vintage Sherwood Model S-3000 V FM MX Tuner. What others say about this tuner. "The 3000V (1960) is very capable. An internet search will find many commentaries that generally indicate Sherwood's stereo tube tuners were and still are very good. Sherwood was a major player in the tube and later solid-state hi-fi market. Very interesting company history."
