I'm cleaning out my rather extensive A/V & stereo closets. Up for sale this time is a rather rare George Wright WLA-12A pre-amp. It is well thought of in the single driver, high efficiency community.

I'm rating it "7" due to age and the fact that some of the decal labels have a little damage. However, it sounds fine and looks good except for the decal flaws.

Minimalists, note that the WLA-12A pre-amp does not use any printed circuit boards, rather all wiring is hard wired point-to-point (see photo). Components appear to be of high quality. I purchased the Wright's in 2010 and have only occasionally used it since then. Tubes are those that came with the units when I bought it.

For an informative review, see David Robinson's Positive Feedback review of several popular SET's at http://www.positive-feedback.com/pfbackissues/0804/Setsandsacd.htm. With respect to the Wright's sound, he says: "I was quite surprised with the results. The combination of the WLA12 (with it's companion WPA 3.5 mono amps) and the Lowther PM2As was striking! Belying its looks, the Wright Sound gear exhibited a combination of great dynamics, striking detail, and excellent rhythm and pacing. Music seemed to well up from its commendably quiet noise floor with ease and effortlessness. There was no sense of constriction, nor of "rolled off" higher frequencies; you felt that, much like with the Welbornes, the Lowthers were being taken to the limits that 2A3 (amps)would do. I must therefore give them a Ye Olde Editor’s "Highest Recommendation."

In the review, David happens to compare the Wrights ( WLA-12 pre [$700 new, predecessor of the WPA-12A] & WPA-3.5 amps [$1250 new] ) to, among others, an EAR-V20 integrated SET amp ($4,600 at the time). I found this particularly interesting because I have compared my Wright's against my EAR integrated SET amp (EAR-859) driving my now departed Cain & Cain Abby speakers. I found them to be surprisingly similar in sound across the spectrum and in their dimensionality (i.e., very nice sounding).

Earlier, I once listed this WLA-12A but then pulled its ad when I discovered it worked really well with some newer solid state amps (Emotiva, Outlaw) into my Martin Logan wall-mounted "Scripts". Even with these solid state amps, the WLA-12A seems to give me about 90% of the magic I previously got using my Integrated EAR-859 SET amp with single driver speakers (Cain & Cain Abbys).

PayPal preferred. Free shipping. I have the original box.

I'm selling this "As Is" to discourage free "road tests" but will of course honor legitimate concerns that it is other than advertised.
