I have for sale a matched quad (4 tubes) of the Audio Research labeled 12ax7/Ecc-83 smooth plate tubes.. Audio Research corporation used these tubes in there products back in the 1980's The tubes are tested on an Amplitrex AT-1000 reference quality tube tester.
The tubes are from a 100 lot tray and are new old stock. The tubes are labeled made in W. Germany and have the audio research part numbers on them. The lettering is strong on the tubes but fragile due to age,
These are the rare smooth plate 12ax7 tubes modeled after the Telefunken 12ax7 tube.
The tubes have always been stored in a smoke free, temperature controlled environment. The tubes are well over 30 years old so they do not have the appearance of a tube manufactured yesterday. The silver flashing material on the top of the tubes are in excellent shape with an occasional small dark spot in the flashing caused in the manufacturing process. The tubes will come in generic white tube boxes. You get four tubes for my listed price. Audiogon does not have a New old stock category so they are listed as mint condition because they are NOS and unused.
All the tubes are tested and listened to for noise on a state of the art, Amplitrex AT-1000 tube tester using the auto mode. The test results are 90E/106GM 85E/106GM; 85E/106GM 85E/106GM; 85E/100GM 90E/100GM; 90E/112GM 85E/112GM. I've had a quad of these tubes in one of my ARC preamps for awhile and I'm very impressed with their excellent sound and low noise. Like most NOS European tubes such as Mullard and Telefunken the tubes flash when energized and this is normal for this tube type, due to the special filament design.
I've had multiple repeat buyers of these tubes from audiophiles and studio/touring musicians on this site and other sites that I list on. The tubes are from the estate of a long time audio research employee.
