EI Telefunken 12ax7 tubes, NOS prewar, smooth gray plates, 4 tubes total, Amplitrex tested

I have for sale a quad (4 tubes) of the EI prewar 12ax7/Ecc-83 smooth plate tubes....tested on an Amplitrex AT-1000 reference quality tube tester. These are early 1980's vintage NOS (new old stock tubes) that are part of a 100 tray factory lot. Because the tubes are part of a factory tray they were more than likely all manufactured on the same day. In case you are not aware of the story of these tubes... EI purchased all the factory tooling from Telefunken and basically made an exact copy of the famous Telefunken smooth plate 12ax7 using original Telefunken machinery. These are the highly desirable smooth gray plate 12ax7 tubes with the halo getter just like the famous Telefunken 12ax7 they are modeled after. Elektronska Industrija or better known as EI of Yugoslavia started tube production in 1951 and was a major supplier of OEM and there own tubes for many decades.

These pre-war (Yugoslavia war) EI tubes are known for their excellent sound and reliability at a much lower cost than buying a Telefunken tube. Also, as is well documented on the internet, the prewar EI tubes are of much higher quality than the tubes produced during and after the war where parts quality suffered greatly. The tubes have always been stored in a smoke free, temperature controlled environment. The lettering on the tubes say ECC-83/12AX7 in large traditional EI lettering and they have the EI factory markings and pinched glass design. The lettering is mostly complete to partially complete on the tubes, but very fragile and faint due to age. The flashing material is in excellent shape with an occasional small dark spot caused in the manufacturing process. The tubes pictured are from the 100 tray lot and are an example of the lettering. The tubes will come in generic white tube boxes. You get four tubes for my listed price. Audiogon does not have a NOS category so they are listed as mint condition because they are NOS and unused.

All the tubes are tested and listened to on a state of the art, Amplitrex AT-1000 tube tester and test as 100E/115GM, 95E/110GM, 115/100GM, 110E/95GM.
I've had a quad in one of my ARC preamps for awhile and I'm very impressed with their excellent sound and low noise. Like most NOS European tubes such as Mullard and Telefunken the tubes flash when energized and this is normal for this tube type, due to the special filament design.

Check around the web and typically you will see these NOS prewar tubes offered at $30-$70 or higher per tube not matched. I am fortunate enough to have access to one of the last large supplies of these NOS tubes and I will offer them at reasonable prices. I've had multiple repeat buyers of these tubes from audiophiles and studio/touring musicians on this site and other sites that I list on.
