The Pro-Ject RM-5 SE is gorgeous and sounds wonderful, with a high-gloss gray piano lacquered finish, fully-damped aluminum/Sorbothane cones, screw-on record clamp, and “sandwich material” platter with integrated vinyl mat. The MDF plinth and suspended motor assembly are optimized for low resonance and speed stability. The RM-5 SE provides unbeatable rhythmic performance and dynamics not often heard at tables in this price range.
The RM-5 includes Pro-Ject's excellent 9c tonearm with precision Swiss bearings and a rigid carbon fiber arm tube providing superior tracking. The RM-5 SE comes supplied with the famous Sumiko Blue Point #2, a classic high-output MC cartridge with incredible detail retrieval. This package looks great, and sounds even better.
Features:
- Functionally and cosmetically excellent.
- Piano-lacquered dark grey chassis.
- Quiet running AC motor with a two-step pulley drives the hub and platter via a flat-ground belt.
- The medium density fiber plinth stands on three height-adjustable rubber-damped aluminum cones.
- The motor is decoupled from the plinth to reduce vibration transmission. Sandwich construction with a medium density fiber platter, a integrated vinyl, and a screw-down record clamp.
- Low-tolerance chrome-plated stainless-steel axle runs on a Teflon bearing plate in a sintered bronze bearing housing.
- Central metal block optimizes center of gravity and damps main bearing. Gold-plated phono sockets and earth screw.
- External power supply avoids potential electro-mechanical interference.
- 2 drive belts, one still in its retail packaging.
- Original box and packing materials.
Additionally, available separately is a Pro-Ject Cover-It dust cover ($249.00 retail) in virtually flawless condition - I have yet to photograph it, but will happy to do so for anyone who might be interested in purchasing it separately to go with the RM-5 - it is NOT included in the purchase price for the turntable. It also comes with the original box and packing materials and will be shipped at actual cost, yet to be determined, to the buyer. I reserve the right to post this dust cover for sale separately on eBay and/or Audiogon.
No overseas buyers - U.S. and Canada only. Absolutely no international shipping beyond North America.
