For your consideration: a near perfect, complete SME 3009 Series II tonearm with custom polished black TD 124 plinth and arm board. Unlike most 3009s that are sold, this tonearm is complete and includes all counter weights. Please note this is the Series II with an effective mass of 12.5 grams. Not the (IMO) inferior 'improved' version of this wonderful tonearm.
Not included in sale: 1957 TD 124, Audio-Technica AT33 EV
Selling as the restored SME has been replaced with an Ikeda IT 407 12" tonearm! There are NO problems with this tonearm.
The SME 3009 was cleaned and rewired by Analog Tube Audio in Germany. Work performed included: adding 1.4m Pure Silver Hair Wire, RCA Conversion Kit, add rider weight, change front rubber coupling piece, arm socket insert, thorough and complete cleaning (total ~$500).
The results were worth the time and effort! The SME 3009 tonearm sound is outstanding. Tracking performance is as good as it gets. With the $500 AT33, the combination passes the first three tracking cuts of the HiFi News test LP!! They nearly pass the IMPOSSIBLE to track 4th cut! This combination easily outperforms my SME 30/2, Graham tonearm and Dynavector XX2 MKII cartridge. http://www.analogtubeaudio.de/en/
You will not find a better condition, finer sounding 3009 anywhere. Add the tonearm, plinth and armboard to your TD 124 and you're ready to go! I will consider selling items separately.
