Questions for the seller
Is this plinth backward compatible with an SP10 MKII?
Hi - it could be machined to accept a mk2 configuration but right now it only has provisions for the mk3 motor and control board.
Would you accept $1000? If so, are you able to pack it securely for shipping to me in Bethesda MD? Thx.
Hi - I apologize for the delay in responding as I just got back from a business trip. I am just waiting to hear back from a gentleman that expressed interest first. If he does not commit to it tomorrow I can accept your offer. I do have a secure wooden crate for shipping so that will not be a problem except for the cost. Thanks, Bruce
Any idea what to cost would be to have it machined for a MK II and I assume that would be with Steve Dobbins?
I'm not sure how extensive the modifications would need to be for a mk2. Sorry but i am not familiar with the mk2. Thanks, Bruce
It would not work with the sp10R?
The information from Technics is that the sp10R is backwards compatible with the sp10mk3. That may mean that the case will bolt in to an existing Technics plinth or it may also mean that the motor assembly is the same. If it is the latter it would work. It probably could be made to work either way - but I would need to see the sp10r motor with the platter removed to see if it looks the same.
Did the gentlemen buy the plinth? Also what material is it made of? Can more armboards be purchased?
He bought it but then contacted Steve Dobbins to have him make several changes that he wanted. Before I shipped it he got the quote and it was much higher than he was anticipating. I told him i would refund his money if the plinth was not going to work out for him. So yes it is available again. It has 2 arm boards - both have had tonearms mounted but of course can be drilled to accept new patterns. The plinth material is a dense composite with aluminum layers in between the sections.
