This turntable started out as a stock Thorens TD166MK2. Which is the same as the 160, except a piece of the subplatter is plastic (pictured) in the 166. I actually think that the plastic sub-platter is great for anti-resonance even though the 166 isn't as sought after as the 160.
I put a Rega RB600 Arm upgraded with an Origin Live counter weight and rewired by Audio Origami in Scotland. The rewire includes Cardas ofc internal wire., gold tags, and the external wire is a cocktail of silver and copper to Neutrik Pro Gold RCAs as connectors. It's got a ground wire, which I don't think Rega's have stock. Nice.
I installed some mods provided by SMR Tech. I liked the Twin Motor Vibration Absorbers, Bearing Damping Rings, and the Main Bearing Spindle Support Pad. The Platter Damping Ring, which isn't pictured, and I don't that much is easy to put on/remove so you can check it out and make up your own mind.
I rebuilt the plinth completely - solid oak with a 1.5 inch, 22 ply birch plywood base. A 1/2 inch of the base is exposed like the original to get that tiered look, but it's got some mass to it at this point. It really helps with footfalls, which stock Thorens are dogs about. Black oil stain and several layers of satin poly on it. Vibrapod feet. The cover is scratched and scuffed, but intact and functional. One of the hinges is broken, but the cover will still open and close without any undo babysitting.
I'll include a few washers and nuts for the Rega arm in case you want to dial it in a little different. Also included are 3 mats. The original Thorens (sucks), the SRM-Tech felt mat and a cork mat I got somewhere else. The latter 2 are both great, but sound different from each other - pretty cool.
Does not come with a cartridge. I'd be happy to put one on for you if you want to send me something to align. I've got a AT ML440a that I could dial in for a $100? Low mileage.
Issues with the turntable: My plinth rebuild is very slightly off-square. It drifts about 1/16 inch over the length of the table. It's pretty tight and you probably wouldn't notice. Also, to adjust the suspension, you have to take the base off completely. The original Thorens base has holes in it so you can access the suspension, but that base is 1/4 inch thick and I didn't think that was part of the design that should be extended to a 1.5" base. You can take the base off this very easily to dial in the suspension. I can include the original plinth if you want it
Hit me up with any questions. Send me a check and let's not pay Paypal 3%? I'll take Paypal on your tab though.
Price includes shipping. I'll also consider partial trade for a VPI cleaning machine.
