The Ultra Platform is a “density ordered constrained layer” design meant to drain mechanical energy away from your component. The 5/10 rating is because the top surface has multiple scratches caused by adjusting component position. However, the platform is fully functional as an isolation device. Chances are the scratches may be largely covered by the component placed on top of it.

Dimensions are 19” x 18” x 3 ½” and this is a heavy component that wants to be placed on a sturdy surface. The unit comes with four ¼ -20 threaded Precision Couplers.

From Symposium literature:
"Use the Precision Couplers to support your component while contacting the bare metal bottom of its chassis. In this way, you bypass the original vinyl or rubber feet (rubber feet present a mechanical reactance to the mechanical “circuit path” between your component’s chassis and the Ultra Platform) and directly couple you component to the top plate of the Ultra Platform, which now becomes an “extension” of your equipment’s chassis, allowing better energy transfer to subsequent layers of the Platform. You will not realize maximum performance from your Ultra Platform if you only use the original soft feet of your component. In practice, we’ve found a good rule of thumb is to place at least two of the couplers on the side of the component which has the transformer(s). In ALL cases, listening tests will reveal optimal placement of the couplers, and the differences between just a few inches can be substantial and revealing.

"Putting sorbothane pucks or air-cushion isolation devices between your component and your Platform is counterproductive, since these devices are designed to offer resistance to mechanical transmission. If you wish to use decoupling devices such as sorbothane feet, air cushion, Vibraplanes, etc,. install them BELOW your Ultra Platform. In this way, you’ll achieve superior energy drainage and simultaneous low frequency isolation."
