Vienna Acoustics Haydn speakers in very good condition, with upgraded crossovers that make this pair sing even more sweetly than the standard models.

Like the standard Haydns, which I’ve also owned, these speakers are warm, smooth, and seductively musical. The upgraded crossovers retain all the virtues of the original speakers but help to remove a slight veil, making these speakers more transparent and a bit more extended at both ends of the spectrum, with silky highs and more dynamic, better-defined lows than the standard speakers.

The original owner informed me that he had the crossovers modified by a professional audio technician, who used replacement parts that precisely matched the values of the original crossover components. The upgraded crossover components include:
• Mundorf Silver/Oil capacitors (in the photo, this big cap has some adhesive and damping material on it to hold it in place)
• Auricaps
• Mills non-inductive wire-wound resistors
The original owner invested more than $400 in the upgraded parts alone. The result is a set of VA Haydns that are as sweet and warm as the originals, but even more so!

Cosmetically, these speakers are in good to very good condition. The wood is beech, which has a mellow warm golden glow. Close up you can see a few light mars to the finish, but from a few feet away they look very good. One speaker is missing a single grill post grommet but the grille stays tightly in place. The grilles themselves are in good condition, with all mounting posts intact, and the cloth is generally clean, with a couple of light imperfections visible only on close inspection. The bottoms do have some scratches, but of course they don’t show in normal use. Please see the photos. Upon request, I can e-mail a photo of the bottoms.

Most importantly, the drivers are in excellent condition, and the speakers sound great. I’ve driven them with a small digital desktop amp, a Rega Brio integrated, and Bel Canto amps – in all cases, the speakers were easy to drive and a pleasure to listen to, never irritating or fatiguing.
