Description

My current Home Theater system in my family room.  Not nearly as high end as my 2 channel stereo system.  For some reason I can live with good but not top end hifi sound for my HT system as long as the picture quality is top notch.  My HT system has some trickle down from my 2 channel Hifi.  For example, the Furman power conditioner moved to the HT system when I got the Niagara 5000 for my Stereo system.  It was an unexpected but pleasant surprise to see the picture quality of the TV improve dramatically with this power conditioner in place.  The picture got sharper and the colors brighter.  And that happened with my previous Sony LCD TV.  So I highly recommend a good power conditioner for your HT system.  You will see the difference.
Another trickle down from my 2 channel system is the speaker platforms under the subwoofers.   I designed these platforms for my previous Thiel speakers to isolate them from the floor.  They work beautifully on these subs as well.  The platforms have 4, 48 lb/in springs that sit on the floor.  Considering the weight of each subwoofer these platforms have a natural frequency of 3.3 Hz.  That effectively isolates the subs from the floor.  The result is clear, deep bass.  This is an easy and effective way to improve the bass in both a HT system and 2 Channel system.  You see, the second way these platforms help is to raise the woofer driver further off the floor.

Another trickle down from my stereo to the HT system is the LHY SW-8 Network switch.  This Audio Grade network switch makes an amazing difference in the sound of streaming on my 2 channel rig.  So I did an experiment and ran a 75 foot ethernet cable to my Apple TV box from the SW-8.  The streaming picture on my TV improved dramatically.  Even running an ethernet cable as a back channel to my other mesh transmitter made streaming via wifi on the  TV much better but a direct cable to the Apple TV box gave it that last 5% of improvement.  So I then spent the better part of a day running those ethernet cables from my listening room through the walls over to my HT room.  It was worth it.

The last trickle down from my 2 channel rig are the IsoAcoustic Gaia I feet on the main front speakers.  These were used on my Thiel speakers before I sold them.  They work for the MA Gold speakers as well.  The biggest change I noticed is in the imaging.  With Dolby Atmos and surround the images in movies now float in space all around the room.  It really seems like sounds are coming from parts of the room far from any speaker.  Makes movies more enjoyable.

My final comment is the Sony OLED TV.  This is the TV I have been waiting for all my life.  The blacks are black and the colors fantastic.  The Apple TV box performs better than the TVs internal processor, I think.  Combined with the ethernet cable from the LHY SW-8 this TV is just amazing to see.  It is a photograph in motion.  The detail, colors and contrast never cease to amaze me.

Tony I am not much of an HT guy but what a gorgeous room you have and those Monitor Audios just look stunning!

Hello and thank you.  I have considered all types of arraignments.  The room is challenging because of all the light.  I would love to have an even larger screen but I do not want to cover any more glass.  I must also defer to my wife’s preferences and so this was the optimized solution.

You are right, the subs are set at -12dB.  They are deep and powerful.  I started with one sub but the second sub makes a difference, I found.  Enough to justify the cost?  Not really, but I broke through the cost/benefit boundary some time back with my hifi rig.  Somebody stop me…

Very lovely. Like the use of TV stand. I use one in front of French doors.
Love the georgian windows.

Ever think about narrowing the main speaker footprint so as to allow greater visibility of those beautiful doors and view. Can subs be located to another section of the room. My guess is the volume control is set to 25% or less on the subs.  My sub is large and I stick it in the back of the room and it's just fine. Not sure it really matters where these things are assuming main speakers are handling bass without an issue
