Beautiful space. Well done.

Your idea of heavy curtains on the window doubling as acoustic treatment is a good one. I have done similarly with curtains that mimic silk, backed with black-out curtains. On an opposite wall at the first reflection point is an acoustic panel.

GIK Acoustics has a vast library of prints for their Art Panel acoustic panels.

You should be able to find a print that meets approval.

I want to thank each of you for your kind comments, and I will try to answer your questions individually.

@baylinor,

You are 100% spot-on with your comments about the room acoustics.  I’m following my instincts regarding the room treatment, and it is an ongoing project.  I installed the center diffusion panel based on the common guidance of diffusing the center.  I wasn’t exactly sure what to do then, so flanking the center diffuser are hybrid panels.  I have corner treatments on order for the front wall.  They should arrive in a few weeks.  The corner panels are reversable, so I can set them to be bass traps or hybrid panels.  I’m limited with what I can do for the side walls, although I recognize the need.  There’s a big window on the left side of the room for which we may have some thick curtains made.  On the right wall I’d be happy with the same hybrid panels that are on the front wall but I’m not sure my wife would approve.  I need to find an absorption panel that looks like a painting.  I do have some absorption panels on the ceiling.

The system is still breaking-in and is moving in a nice direction of what I would describe as having detail, roundness, weight, and speed, but you are also spot-on with your comments about it having the potential to become fatiguing if I don’t get its interaction with the room right.  It is indeed an acoustic journey and thank you again for your comments and suggestions.

@fred60,

Though I am new to it, I am currently only streaming using Qobuz.  My basement system has an Innuos streamer that also serves as a Roon core.  The basement and main systems are hard wired together, I used CAT6 ethernet cable, so the Vivaldi is able to pull from the Roon core.  I also have a music collection on a NAS drive, but I haven’t gotten it connected into the system yet.

@randypeck

Thank you for your question.  I made too many system changes all at once to isolate any change the Samson rack made.  My previous system used a Salamander Synergy A/V cabinet.  For the new system I wanted to make a change, and my wife and I like the naturalness of wood.  An audiophile friend, who has much more experience than me, said that the Samson racks were good, so I just went with it.  It seems to work well and is quite solid.

@milpai

Thank you!  My wife is to thank for how it all came together, she has a keen talent for colors and design.  I hoped too that if she selected all the colors, she wouldn’t ask me how much I was spending on this rig, although everyone tells me that I don’t get away with near as much as I think I do!  Her final touch was the Louis Poulsen floor lamps, which I think work very nicely with the setup.

My best wishes to you all, and thank you again for your comments,

John

Very nice setup! Love the clean looks.

Beautiful system and room.  Just wondering, obviously you like the Mapleshades Samson equipment racks.  Did you hear a sufficient improve in your equipment once the Samson racks were installed?

randypeck

Wow-- beautiful system and set-up!  Enjoy!  You going all-in on streaming?

fred60

Beautiful system lineup. Just looking at the room layout, I can almost hear it. I bet it has optimum clarity even maybe too much. Reasoning is, other than the rugs, everything else is mainly reflecting and a lot of diffusing with almost no absorbing. My thought is that you will eventually want to tone down the room as it may become too fatiguing listening to it as is. Either way, with your equipment, I can only imagine how great it can really sound. Enjoy the room acoustic journey.

@aniwolfe Thank you!  The system has only been up and running a few days but I can tell I’m going to enjoy it a lot.
