I love your system. I have Cary 805C my self. I had the ProAc 2.5 then sold them and got speakers from www.northcreekmusic.com They are much better crossovers using the same woofers but a better tweeter. Just a idea for some thing to look at.

I am only going to point this out since you said you are a beginner... Your system is leaps and bounds better than mine however!!! I do have a similiar CD player. If you are using the DAC then you are not using the tube output of your CD player... So upgrading the tubes would not matter, unless you disconect the DAC. In other words don't use the digital out from the CD player if you want to use the tube output.

The Amperex 6922 PQ is a VERY nice tube. They should last you 10,000 hrs. If you want to try tube rolling inexpensively, you can buy used but test as new tubes on ebay for a fraction of NOS. There are several sellers with lots of positive feedback.
For used speaker cabling and i/cs, you can try usedcables.com, and try with return privledges or pay less to buy direct on this site and re-sell. DH Labs T-14 and Q-10 are inexpensive, decent speaker cables. You can also get older MIT MH-750 or T2 for a pretty good price, and Audio Advisor usually has Audioquest closeouts heavily discounted.

Happi, go to Audio Asylum, click on FAQ and read Joe's Tube Lore for an excellent consumer guide to 12AU7s, 12AX7s, 6DJ8s, 6922s and 7308s. Following some of Joe's recommendations, I would upgrade to the Siemens 7308s and Amperex 6922 PQs, though the Siemens 6922/E88CC and Amperex 6DJ8 Bugle Boy/A Frame are probably 85% as good at less than half the price.

Happi, I believe that they use 6922 not 6992 as you have posted. 12AX7 is not a substitute. Try Amperex 6922 with gold pins or PQ. The Amperex 6DJ8 is also a direct subsititute and all of these should be relatively inexpensive.

Are your current tubes new? How old? The 12ax7 and similar will go for many years, the driver tubes will only last 1000-2000 hours and then will lose some inpact, clarity and control.

for my CD and preamp but i don't know which one is good for it, anybody have any idea about NOS tube . and the speaker cable . i had some in might, cadas golden cross , and xlo ref or signture ,and mit 750 . what do you think about it which one match for me. and now i going to get Alan Hovhanas , Sonny-Saint-Saint Organ Symphony , Lorin Maazel Pittsburgh Symphony to try in this weeeken. You've got a great system for a beginner. You might try some vibration control divices from Polycrystal or Black Diamond Racing. You might want to invest in the most expensive speaker wire you can afford since this can make a major improvement in sound. As far as classical music is concerned, that's a big area and without knowing your taste or what you already own, it is difficult to make a suggestion. However, one disc that comes to mind is on Sony - Saint-Sains Organ Symphony coupled with s few other light classical works with Lorin Maazel and the Pittsburgh Symphony. This is a spectacular recording. Sony really got it right with this one. I have taken it to Home Entertainment Shows and everyone, both visitors and exhibitors, were knocked out by this disc.

A nice addition might be to upgrade your CD to a single well. Marantz SA14 would get you into SACD or if you want to go easier on the budget and get more "bang for buck" results. The DV8300 is a very good buy, I just bought one as a DVD player but am also using the SACD capability. It also plays DVD-Audio, MPEG, CD,and SACD multi channel.
A great buy for 1500.00. As far as classical start off with some Alan Hovhannas he is an overlooked genius and is a nice transistion from new age.

Great rig for a beginner. I am jealous. To beg the question, in what way would you want your system to improve? That will lead to the answer. With such a nice rig two suggestions are to just buy more good software. What type of classical music do you enjoy when you hear it, opera, symphonic, chamber? Maybe pastoral, maybe knock-em-dead, perhaps cinematic? Good tuners can be had very cheaply on this site and literally for pocket change at many Goodwill stores. It will allow you to be exposed to many great types of music, classical, jazz, world, dare I say rap. And all of it is free. Few realize that a live FM broadcast is the only source we can listen to on our rigs that is not subjected to any form of strorage media. That can be strong medacine and truly high end. You might also try tube rolling with some nice NOS tubes. Wouldn't be too expensive, but the results may be quite variable. Spending time in locating your loudspeakers just so is also a free tweek that bests many equiptment upgrades. Best of luck and welcome to the game.
