Built this system around the insanely great Yamamoto A-011 2a3 SET amp with gain control and EML 2a3 solid plate tubes. I just received the Yamamoto YDA-01 DAC and it sounds very good with only about 30 hours of break in. The speakers are Cain and Cains Super Abbeys and Bailey Subwoofer. I just purchased a pair of Devore Fidelity Gibbon 3 stand mounted speakers to use during the Holiday season when space in my small 14x16 room is at a premium. Looking to upgrade the transport to something more appropriate in the near future, any suggestions for a reasonably priced top loader?
Very cool system! I will be placing an order for an A-08S here very soon. I can't wait. I've wanted a 45-based SET amp for over a decade and I'm finally in a situation where I can have one successfully.
I presently own a almarro 318B.Awsome music appreciation device, but I am losing sleep waiting for my yamamoto A-o11! This is my third week waiting; How does this amp sound? Thank you very much.
Jg, what did you think of the Devore Gibbon 3s compared to the Abbys?
I had the pleasure to listen to a pair of Super 8 a while ago in my own system (I use Abbys as well), and did like their evenhanded, articulate, coherent, and balanced presentation quite a bit.
I was considering the Yamamoto A-08S a few months ago for my Abbys but then decided for the new 6v6 version of the Shindo Montille instead.
Jim, Nice to meet you today at Chads. Your system looks great. Hope to hear it some day. I have a soft spot in my heart for SET gear (horns too !). Best, Brian
Dear Garry, thanks for the kind remarks. I admire your choices for your three systems. I had considered the Tones and the Aurums as well. Also owned a REL Stadium 3 and Strata 3 and loved them both. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Best Regards, Jim.
Lovely simple system - the Yamamoto kit is top notch. I have the Yamamato HA-02 headphone amp and just love it. It must sound spectacular with the C&C & Baily sub - nice matching.
I'd love to get some more Yammy kit, but with newly born twins, I've run out of rooms. Perhaps that's my wifes secret mission . . . more babies = less HiFi :O!
No doubt your kit will sing with the DeVores as well - happy holidays.
