Description

You're looking at my DIY Walsh radiator, a 'take' on the German Physiks DDD unit with obvious variations.  The bottom 'blue' cone is upper bass through upper mid; the silver cone goes up from there.  A 'work in progress', this is one of four 'V.3' units that run with some eq to level things out to taste.

    • Russound R125MC
Multi-channel amp as the 'driving force'.  Mixed bag of other equipment, nothing of any major pedigree that would trigger avarice or envy.  Collection is more 'test bed' than listening space', 'living room' or 'av environment'.

If interested, I can e/m a list.  You likely won't be impressed.

@ricmech23 They 'rap' decently, since I turn the lower bass off to a sub.
One can only expect so much from a Walsh, even though the lower cone has a radiating surface similar to a 10" dia. conventional speaker.  Since they are DIY, I don't ask of them to crack sheetrock. *L*
LL Cool J's Mama Said Knock You Out is on one of my playlists and they deliver just fine. ;)
I made a smaller pair that's in my office and serve as monitors for the 'puter I post at, trying out how 'acoustic suspension' works with the larger drivers.  I occasionally post what I'm listening to or what the ongoing thread reminds me of; likely to the dismay of the gathered....*L*
They can handle 'volume to 11' on a small Phillips integrated without clip, but it's only ~10wpc so no big strain but loud enough. *G*  I eq them with the 'puters' Realtek program to punch the highs since the 'tweet cones are dinky....another ongoing DIY affair....

@tuberist *S* I'd be pleased to 'strut their stuff* for you but no road shows in planning at this time. ;)
I'm pleased they sound as good as they do, at least to my ears.  The pic posted is of an earlier rendition which has been revised since with an improved Walsh 'tweeter' which gives them more 'air' in the highs.
However, if you opt to vaca in W. NC, feel free to get in touch. *G*

I would love to hear some rap music come out of there! Lol! Pretty cool man!

Very cool.  Would love to hear that and would like to hear more about your design and tuning process.

I'm happy to be the first to comment on your ambitious work! Kudos! Congratulations! I love it!

Ingenuity, ambition to try things, creativity and the like should be applauded, and you show all of these. Give credit to the guy who goes after what he wants and makes it happen.  :)

I would love to hear a homemade version of the Walsh driver to see how well it could perform. My excuse is that I don't have the time or inclination to become the mad scientist. The truth is I could, but I haven't made it a priority. I'm sure you're having a terrific time with the "speaker shop" you are operating.  :)
