not sure if this is the best line to answer your q about Audio Note caps for the 45 SET but here goes. I replaced the original output caps with AN copper mylar of same value. Immediately more transparent, open, less veiled and so musically right. Good luck. I have a friend with that amp and he has replaced O/P and other caps, in the power supply, but Duelunds not AN's.. He said the differences were subtle. In my system the modification worked well and I am happy with the result. good luck.

Really nice ensemble Jeff. I enjoyed reading your comments. All the best, Toi

Awesome! I'm guessing the split system HVAC is ultra quiet.

I've heard most commercial horn speakers. I had Avantgardes for many years, these are far superior. They have a wider dispersion, better imaging, and much better integration of the bass.

PBN box speakers are great (I owned the EPS 2) but these horns are more dynamic and have better "jump" factor. 15" bass is the best!

jeff1225

I just found out about these speakers and was wondering what other horn speakers you have tried. How do these compare to PBN best box speaker?

magneto340

A very nice effort; I can see why you would be enjoying it.

New speakers are breaking in nicely. PBN Audio custom horn speakers are the best speakers I've ever owned.

Je... when you are down in S. Cali i like to invite you over for a demo.  Let me know??

So my last speakers were Avantgarde Uno Nano (you can see the system on A-gon). This a COMPLETELY different animal, totally straightforward and super easy to tune. With the Avantgarde it was not a simple or entirely intuitive system to tune the base.  This system also has an control to boost or reduce a specific resonance, which fixes a 50hz bass issue in my room. Also, the Nano's had the woofers working as high as 350 hz...when you are only at 100 hz, there is a different interaction with the woofers.

In terms of drivers, the tweeters and midrange, they are Seas. The woofer is the same 12" used in the S-sub by Magico.

jeff1225

Thanks!  Really appreciated the detail explanation.  I totally agree with you in regards to the price point, I would take the quintessence in a heart beat over the Wilson's Speakers.   But the down side to that is the woofer has an active amp.  Me personally i am not a big fan of active dsp bass module.  Extremely hard to tune, bass can be boomy or sometime out of wack!  Just from my experiences with Advantgarde duo speakers.

Just out of curiosity?  The tweeter, midrange, ribbon tweeter and bass drivers, do you know who is the actual manufacturer of each drivers.  Please advise??

HI,
While there are some visual similarities between the Wilson and the Stealth, they are very different speakers:

  • Stealth is an all sealed box design (like Magico), there are no port issues or boomy bass that can plague poorly set up Wilson's.
  • The bass has a DSP controlled class A/B 1000 watt amp, and these drivers are only working below 100 hz. You can really dial in the bass to fit your room.
  • There is a super tweeter operating above 12K. This gives you great sparkle on cymbals.
Wilson's are great speaker and I've heard almost every model. I personally think that you get a better speaker from Quintessence for about half the price.

jeff1225

Hi Je... may i ask, how does the Stealth compare to the Wilson say Alexandra or Grand Slam?  Both speakers looks very identical.

Had a chance to demo a Quintennces at a friend house, his version was smaller, but really was amazing.  For the price wise, nothing beats it in my honest opinion!

I can say that the Stealth's are amazing being finally broken in. I've had several audiophiles over to the house and they all concur that the system is a winner, excelling at imaging and listenability. The ribbon super tweeter is one of the stars...give non-fatiguing detail.

Lastly I will say that this is the best bass I've heard in my system. When are you visiting????

jeff1225

Good Day Jeff! How is the system? Any changes as of late and how are the Stealth's treating you?

Thank you for the nice complements! I designed the stereo rack to mimic the bent plywood of the Eames Chair. Also, the Nelson Bench is a great diffuser and actually enhances the sonic presentation.....

jeff1225

So many things to love here, especially the bench and LCM.

allison2

You are very welcome....the speakers are beautiful and it gave me a reason to go check out their site. They remind me of Dale Pitcher's "Denali's" only a lot more beautiful to look at; do they play all types of music well?  If you are ever out east in the Carolinas, let me know and we can do some listening!

zephyr24069

Wow, great looking system and room. Really makes you want to get comfy and listen for hours. As another Lamm hybrid amp owner, I'd love to hear it. Keep on spinnin'!
