This is my current hi-fi system. We're a young family with a 2 1/2 year old, and we don't have any fancy dedicated listening room or home theater. This is right in our "family room" (I am very lucky to have such a wonderful and understanding wife). We love listening to music together while our daughter plays (notice the children's "kitchen" directly next to the setup).
There is (of course) tons of room for improvement, but that's half the fun I suppose. The Accuphase E-202 has been completely refurbished and sounds wonderful, although I always wish I had "more power" for the giant Revel Salons. Despite the Salon's approaching 20 years old, they are still simply incredible.
Most of our listening is on vinyl and CD, although we have an Amazon "Echo Dot" tucked away for quick access to children's music and other random songs through voice commands. If it ever goes on sale I'll probably upgrade to the "Echo Link" so I can get a dedicated digital output and run it through a Schiit Modi DAC for a super basic (but hopefully decent) digital streaming setup.
*Update 8/12/19* Finally got the correct hardware to install the doors on the Salamander cabinet--which was way harder than I expected!--and I have added some new pictures showing the doors (and also the 2nd Technics SL-1200 M3D displayed)
I think it’s great that you are able to enjoy the music together in a family space. You have an inviting room that looks comfortable. The play kitchen and toys look better than some of the room treatment products displayed in some of the sterile dedicated listening rooms.
I really like that you showed real life. My hat is off to you. I listen in a room that is designed to have my family in the room...not out of the room. Thanks for the pix.
Really nice system and love the real world family friendly space as well! The vast majority of us have living/family situations requiring us to shoehorn fine audio into our lives. Well done!
Beautiful system and I love seeing spaces like this. I pieced together a modest system in our family room that our 3 1/2 year old also uses as a play area. Although I dream of a listening room far into the future, I really appreciate our family time listening and playing together.
plug them into the pre-outs on the E-202, and connect a couple sets of stereo patch cords - one to the main-in jacks on the E-202, the other to the inputs on the power amp. I'd use the E-202 to drive the midranges and tweeters, and the other, more powerful amp to drive the woofers. Use the level controls on the second amp to fine tune the balance. The crossovers in the speakers will handle the bandpass duties.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I actually had never thought of a bi-amping solution before using both the Accuphase E-202 and perhaps a P-300 combined (would that require an external cross-over though?).
I had been tempted from time-to-time to try out some more modern pre-amps and amp combinations, but I've been so happy with the Accuphase I haven't made the plunge yet. If I could ever afford a modern Accuphase intergrated I might change my mind though...
I love these kinds of rooms. A dedicated listening room is a luxury for most people. Your system and its setting strikes a great balance of wonderful sound and everyday practicality, all in something that your whole family can enjoy. Let's hope it instills a similar love of quality audio in your kids.
Regarding your system, since the E-202 has pre-outs, have you considered bi-amping the power-hungry Revels with an Accuphase amp of similar vintage, like the P-300?
